Eric Van Buskirk is the founder of Clickstream Solutions, a boutique consultancy at the intersection of SEO, data research, and AI. With more than 20 years in digital marketing, Eric has led some of the largest and most influential studies in the industry, helping marketers and brands make sense of Google’s evolving search landscape.
In May 2025, he ran the largest independent usability (user behavior) study of Google Search, analyzing 70 participants and 400 AI Overview encounters for Kevin Indig.
He authored 260k Search Results Analyzed, the most-read Search Engine Journal article in June, 2024.
Eric oversaw nine of the biggest content marketing data studies of the past decade. These included landmark projects for Neil Patel and Brian Dean’s Backlinko, where his million-result ranking study became the most up-voted article of Q1 2016 on GrowthHackers and inbound.org.
He began his career in 1995, working with Barnes & Noble on their first website, a pioneering community for college students. He later managed web software partnerships at Delphi Forums, led Fortune 500 accounts at SmartAge.com, and founded “Clickstream Marketing,” a U.S. website services company in Cebu, Philippines, in 2005.
His time at SEMrush (2014 and 2015) further deepened his data expertise. He oversaw major accounts, API integrations, and multi-million-row data projects before returning to grow Clickstream as an SEO and research consultancy.
Today, Eric continues to innovate by developing RAG-driven AI systems that turn massive user behavior datasets into actionable insights.
He holds a Master’s in Mass Communication from Boston University and remains, at heart, a search data fanatic.
